For those of you who have never talked to me (which would be most of you on here) my name is Dave. The project that I am setting out on is the end result of several years worth of planning, successes, failures, and a series of both unfortunate and incredibly beneficial accidents.

I plan to try to keep this build as interesting and colorful as possible. I'm not a cold and mechanical race team with a win-or-die attitude.

The next few paragraphs might become a bit wordy. So if you want to skip to the good stuff, Feel free!

The plan:
Built an Open Class 1995 Subaru Impreza L for stage rally, road rally, and rallycross.

The history:
I first became interested in rally back in 2000. While in Australia I got into a conversation about this strange automotive sport which involved people driving at breakneck speeds on various surfaces. At the time I had a mental image of big SUVs lumbering through mud and over rocks so imagine my surprise when it was explained to me that the "SUVs" were in fact cars!

So the seeds were planted.

Over the next few years I maintained only minimal interest in the sport due to it not being well-known in the states and my general lack of automotive knowledge. To save on time here I can summarize that I owned several subarus which include an SVX, a 2.5RS, a WRX, and the Impreza that is now sitting in my garage waiting to start its build.

The car:
This particular 95 Impreza L was acquired from a builder in Philadelphia. In it's previous life it was a turbocharged 1.8L drag car. It was a bit rough around the edges but almost entirely rust free and exactly what I needed so I could start this.

Just a bit of explanation:

The motor is coming out of a 2002 WRX. It's still the EJ205 but with a few party pieces under the skin including forged pistons and rods. See the spec sheet for more info.

The car has sat like this for several months now as I allocated the resources necessary to make it happen. The slated completion date for this build is mid February to early March.

So without further adieu its time to start! I hope you enjoy seeing it as it grows.

Firewall pan removed

Shell delivered

Stripped

Check out these sweet new wheels. I mounted them in closer to the center for super scientific purposes. You can call me the drift king. I can go totally sideways with these babies.

Big props, again, go out to Andrew Havas. The car is currently getting tossed into an oven. It will serve up to a family of six. Or maybe it's actually going to just get media blasted when it's done. I duno. Fresh roast GC is always so tasty.

Very minor update. Trimming the last of the fat off the interior. Preventing any places for water or any debris to hide behind/under. This might seem like overkill to some but the attention to detail aspect of this build is important to me. Everything in the pics is coming off.

Rear seat reinforcements

Console bracket (plus you can see the newly welded floor plugs) Fabbing our own bracket to mount the CF dash

Floorpan and wheel well plates

Again, nothing exciting. Just the last of the stripping before Andrew starts bending metal and it starts to look more like a rally car!
