Default A twist on the original graphics concept installed

I absolutely loved the SoCalSubies camo pattern that covered the hood and roof. Torsten and I debated whether it was too much or needed to appear on additional parts of the car. In the end, he and I agreed that the issue was a matter of personal taste and one's judgment may change over time with repeated exposures to the pattern.

One thing is for sure, it is definitely unique, receives a lot of attention, and doesn't match the colors laid out in the original design concept. Because I strayed from the original concept colors when I designed the camo pattern, I began to rethink the overall color scheme and layout of the design. I liked the Touring Car look and that is what led me to decide on a stripe for the side of the car, but the design of the stripe lost its impact when I changed it to black and yellow. I also think my vision of the ultimate look the car changed.

Eventually, I opted for a black stripe with an off-center yellow pin-stripe, but something about how the stripe ended on the rear bumper didn't fit my vision. I experimented with the stripe on the rear bumper and I decided to go with various cuts/angles that phased out the stripe with different spacing. I looked at a lot of different stripes on race cars and the Gobstopper, the Subaru built by Roger Clark Motorsports, really inspired me.

It was a challenge to design the angles and their spacing on a two dimensional image so we designed several versions to mock them up on the car with tape before deciding on the best version. When I arrived at Torsten's printing facility, the fumes from the ink printed on the vinyl were so intense (and toxic) that I had to wear a respirator to keep from getting dizzy.

The different variations of the angles were still printing out:

Once these vinyl pieces finished printing, we mocked them up on the car and selected the best looking piece that would terminate the stripe on the rear bumper. A few days later, Torsten came out and install the Project STI stripe.

I was busy with work so I couldn't watch him but I was able to get there before he finished. Imagine my surprise as I opened the garage and saw his progress and the design actually on the car for the first time:

I spent some time watching him finish it off. These digitally printed wraps might look easy to install but he showed me everything that goes into making them perfect. Not only was I am impressed with his work, he did an awesome job consulting with me on the project and i am very happy with the results! Thanks Torsten!

More pics to come. It was incredibly late so this was the best outdoor shot I was able to muster. There are still a few things we will tweak in the future, but not bad for a first attempt

You would not believe how many Gawkers this car now receives...
