Default Third Place in Redline Time Attack at Buttonwillow & Prototype Crawford Gymkhana Exhaust Installed

REDLINE TIME ATTACK UPDATE

I was able to secure 3rd place in the Redline Time Attack Stock Class at Willow Springs Raceway in spite of fuel starvation during the fastest lap:

Our sleezy 8 motel from the weekend, which included a 4 o'clock wakeup call that we didn't request, a domestic dispute at 6 o'clock, and the 6:45 dumpster pickup.

The Parking lot:

We shared breakfast with Dan Harmon and JC Menet:

This was how she looked the morning before we did testing:

Here was a cool picture I took at the hotel:

The attention that the car gets wherever we are is not something I am used to. I don't recall whether I mentioned it in this thread, but I came back to my car in the pits and found people taking pictures of each other in front of it. The hood and roof are staying as-is and I am in the process of redesigning what is to go on the sides of the car now since the black-blue gradient stripe seen in the mockup would clash.

This is how she looked after the first day:

When you race in Redline, you should be prepared for some side-by-side track action. I never thought I'd feel comfortable driving at 100+ mph speeds only a few feet from other drivers on the track. The result is a few marks from the rubber that kicked from the cars in front of me (should come up with a little cleaner) and very dirty wheels:

Wow, it even got in the wheels:

Thanks to Quirt Crawford and Bill Knose of Crawford Performance for providing a prototype version of their Crawford Gymkhana Exhaust as seen on the Ken Block Gymkhana Car. I did a video how to install and got some decent audio that should be ready in the next few days.

Below are photos of the exhaust installed and me installing it at the track. The exhaust sounds so amazing in person.

The stock exhaust weight is ~27-32 pounds. The Crawford Gymkana exhaust weight is ~7-12 pounds. The lighter measurement was with the exhaust on the scale alone. The heavier measurement was taken with someone holding the exhaust while standing on the scale and subtracting the person's weight from the total. Either way, its about a 20 pound weight savings.

The removal of the stock exhaust is two bolts and 4 hangers. The installation of the Gymkana exhaust requires the same two bolts and only two hangers:

Since it hangs from two different points, getting the alignment right requires that you align it by sliding/shifting the exhaust on the hangers. This is a hand designed race piece made from enthusiast sweat and tears:

This doesn't sound as loud as the Crawford Gymkana car or their race car because I am not running anywhere near the same power levels. I would not recommend running this on the street if you have no cat unless you like to draw attention to your car. I have not had a chance to hear what it sounds like with a cat installed. I plan on installing the exhaust either the night before a track event or at the track after I arrive. I could hear the engine well with my helmet on at all speeds with the windows down so that should give you some impression of how loud it is. If you are remotely curious, just unbolt your muffler and drive around. Its probably a little louder than that but it sounds way better because of the specialty tips that Crawford was able to source and develop. Its a pretty cool race piece.

At the moment, the car has a stock midpipe. You don't really need an aftermarket one unless you have upgraded your turbo and need more flow.

Well, I have already the magnaflow 3'' mid-pipe, it come like you know with the cat-back... Do you think, the Magnaflow mid-pipe gone a fit with the Crawford Gymkhana axle back ??? I want to use the Gymkhana for the road race track only... Here in Canada the police have db sound tester, that's bad, I can't used it for daily driving !

Thanks for the info's Kevin...
